Hand Polishing Tools
A preliminary peek at the tools...

I thought you might like to get a sneek peek at the tools we use in the hand polishing process. Not what you might expect, but you're really not going to find *Exactly* what you need in stores in this trade. You gotta improvise. Make your own tools. Customise what you can get in stores!

FLEX™ 5" Grinder

This heavy duty grinder is great for grinding down large surface areas really quickly. The grinder has a variable speed control (see the knob on the left? Can you say Dayton Electronic Motor Speed Control™ with sunflower seeds in your mouth? I don't recommend it, but I do recommend the controller).

The grinder has a rubber pad that we glue hand cut sandpaper (#100 - #400 carbide sandpaper) to using spray adhesive. Really high tech huh? You like the scissors? Blue is one of my favorite colors. Don't use your favorite scissors for cutting these sand paper discs unless you want that ragged look for your paper projects :)
Foredom™ 42" Flexible Shaft Motor

This motor is wonderful! It is great for reaching those hard to get surface areas. I think we picked this motor up at Graingers. It came with the speed control foot pedal (another nice feature).

We make our own abrasive discs for this grinder too. Buying pre-cuts gets expensive after the first few, and believe you me; we go through hundreds per job! Dare I say thousands?

The Kersey Poundomatic™

I took a piece of galvanized pipe and ran it on our belt sander to give it a nice sharp edge (no touchy!). Using a wood block, a little aggression and some spray adhesive you get sticky discs for a fraction of the price! The newspaper is to help keep the die from sticking in the wood block too deep.

All this for only $7.99

(price doesn't include shipping and handling, tax, batteries, bribes or bandaids).
